Feature of the Month for February
Clackamas County Youth Action Committee (YAC)
A voice for youth,
A catalyst for change,
A link to community involvement,
And a learning process for all!
We're not just the future…we're the present!
We are very pleased to present Clackamas County YAC as our feature of the month for February. YAC is a team of energetic youth (with the help of an awesome adult advisor) who want to make a difference in their community. Through their involvement in county government and community service projects, YAC has been involved in making life better for young people in Clackamas County for almost three years now. YAC has served the community by listening, asking the right questions to the right people, and presenting what they have learned to the community and policy makers.
In their VOICES project, YAC teamed up with different agencies and organizations to create surveys that would assist community agencies to better serve youth. They recently presented the results from their Transportation survey to Metro to support their proposal regarding placement of the future MAX (light rail) line in their community. Members of YAC are currently taking classes on the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at Clackamas Community College . GIS is a mapping technology that has many applications from detailing census bureau information to mapping where rivers are located. YAC will use GIS in their VOICES project. The young people plan to present other tangible solutions to problems they see to local policy makers.
YAC is well on their way to creating very awesome changes to support youth in Clackamas County .
